Introduction

India is a land of vibrant diversity, rich culture, and a powerful history of struggle, sacrifice, and unity. Among the strongest symbols of the Indian nation is the Tiranga — the tricolour national flag of India. Comprising saffron, white, and green horizontal stripes with a navy blue Ashoka Chakra in the centre, the Tiranga is not just a flag but a reflection of India’s values and identity. Each colour represents a noble virtue: saffron for courage and sacrifice, white for peace and truth, and green for growth and prosperity.

To help children and youth connect with these values in a fun, creative, and educational way, we present the Tiranga Game — a unique game that combines colour collection, teamwork, knowledge, and strategy, all while honouring the spirit of the Indian flag.  



Game Description

The Tiranga Game is a team-based colour collection and trading game inspired by the Indian national flag. Players participate in various challenges, quizzes, and tasks to collect the three colours of the flag and complete their Tiranga. But there’s a twist — players must earn, exchange, or trade colours with others to get a full set, which promotes cooperation, communication, and unity.

This game is ideal for schools, educational institutions, social gatherings, and even family events during national holidays like Independence Day, Republic Day, or Gandhi Jayanti.

Objective of the Game

The main goal of the Tiranga Game is to collect three tokens of each colour— saffron, white, and green — and arrange them in the correct order to form the Indian national flag. The player or team who completes their Tiranga first and explains its significance wins the game.

Meaning of the Tiranga Colours

Before playing the game, participants are introduced to the meaning of the Tiranga:

  • 🟧 Saffron (Kesari): Stands for courage, sacrifice, and the spirit of service.

  • ⚪ White: Symbolises truth, peace, and honesty.

  • 🟩 Green: Represents growth, prosperity, and harmony with nature.

  • 🔵 Ashoka Chakra: Symbolises law, duty, and motion, reminding us to move forward with righteousness.

Game Materials

To play the Tiranga Game, you will need:

  • Colour Tokens or Cards: 100 of each colour – saffron, white, and green.

  • Challenge Cards: With questions or tasks relating to patriotism, Indian history, environment, and teamwork.

  • Flag Base Boards: A small board where players place the collected colours in the correct flag order.

  • Timer (optional): For timed challenges.

  • Event Cards: Surprise twists to make the game more exciting.

Number of Players

  • 2–6 individual players or teams of 2–4 members.

  • Ideal for children aged 8+, but enjoyable for all age groups.

Game Setup

  1. Each player/team receives a Flag Base Board with three horizontal rows labeled:

    • Saffron (Top Row)

    • White (Middle Row)

    • Green (Bottom Row)

  2. Each player draws 5 random colour tokens from the colour pile. They are likely to receive an uneven mix.

  3. Shuffle the Challenge Cards and Event Cards, and place them in separate piles.

How to Play

The game is played in turns, and each turn has three phases:

1. Challenge Phase

On their turn, the player/team picks a Challenge Card and performs the task to earn a colour token. These challenges are designed to reflect the meanings of the three colours:

Examples:

  • Saffron Challenge (Courage & Sacrifice):

    • Name three Indian freedom fighters and what they stood for.

    • Speak for 30 seconds about a time when you helped someone without expecting anything in return.

  • White Challenge (Peace & Truth):

    • Answer a moral question like: "What would you do if you saw someone cheating during a test?"

    • Meditate silently for one minute without distraction.

  • Green Challenge (Growth & Nature):

    • List five ways to save the environment.

    • Draw or describe an eco-friendly invention.

If the player completes the challenge successfully, they earn a token of the corresponding colour.

2. Trading Phase

After the challenge, the player can trade tokens with other players. Since players start with random colours, trading is essential. This phase encourages strategic thinking and communication.

Examples of trades:

  • "I’ll give you 1 green for 1 white."

  • "I have 2 saffron. Anyone want to exchange for green?"

This reflects the unity in diversity that India represents — we achieve completeness by helping and working with others.

3. Event Phase (Optional)

After every two rounds, an Event Card is drawn that applies to all players. These events add excitement and challenges.

Examples of event cards:

  • Unity Mission: Two players must work together on a task to earn a bonus token.

  • Colour Block: A certain colour becomes unavailable for one round.

  • Ashoka Bonus: Answer a question about the Ashoka Chakra to win any colour of your choice.

Winning the Game

To win the game, a player must:

  1. Collect 3 tokens each of saffron, white, and green.

  2. Arrange them on their Flag Base Board in the correct order.

  3. Explain the meaning of the Tiranga and what it personally means to them.

Only then can they be declared the winner, ensuring that victory is not just about collecting colours, but also understanding and respecting their significance.
